How do I register?

You can either register online by selecting the Thunder Junior Club you want to join or at one of our registration days.

Who can register?

Under 9's - You have to have turned 7 years of age in season & you must be 9 or under at 31st December 2017.
Under 11's - You must be 11 or Under at 1st July 2017.
Girls - You must be 12 or Under at 1st July 2017.

What if my child is too young or too old?

Participants over the age of 11 can progress to an NTFL club, the NTFL season starts in October 2017. For a list of clubs click here.
Participants under the required age can join their local Auskick centre, for further information please visit www.aflauskick.com.au.

Is Kennards Thunder Juniors compliant with the AFL Junior Match Policy?

Yes, Kennards Thunder Juniors follows the AFL Junior match policy; therefore scores are not recorded for any matches.

Can I register after the season has started?

Yes, the cost for registration is still the same, registrations can be conducted online or at your local match day venue.

Can I register on the day of the program?

We would prefer registrations be conducted online or at our advertised registration day.
However, you can register at the first 2 training sessions or Round 1 matches.

Do the players wear Footy Boots?

Yes we encourage players to wear Football boots, however it is not essential.

How long does the season run for?

In Darwin and Palmerston, the season runs from Friday 21 April for 10 weeks (Term 2, 2017). Training starts 2 weeks prior.
In Alice Springs, the season runs for 14 weeks during Term 2 and 3 with a 4 week break over the School Holidays.

Can I become a coach?

Volunteer coaches are essential for the Thunder Junior Program to run.
Each club requires two volunteer coaches (one per age group) and there is training available.

I don't have enough knowledge to coach, but how else can I help out?

Each club requires a volunteer club coordinator who is responsible for the organisation of each team, they help ensure that playing jumpers are given to players and canteen helpers are in place.

Can I play with a team that is not affiliated with my school?

Ideally we would like players to represent their school or area affiliated side, although if a player has a preference to play for a different team we are happy to accommodate that.

How long are the matches?

Four Quarters - 10min Quarters for U/9's & 12min Quarters for U/11's

How many players on the field?

Under 9's - 12 Players
Under 11's - 15 Players

Do the teams have training sessions?

Yes, each club will train weekly throughout the duration of the season.

My daughter wants to play. Do you have a girls only team?

Yes, in 2016 In 2016 we are proud to be introducing 2 girls teams for each region – Darwin and Palmerston.
To register your daughter, select your local Thunder Junior Team and do the registrations as normal.
Girls will train with the boys at their local club, but then play in a girls-only team on Friday nights.
Every girl that registers will receive her own pink Thunder Junior pack including Guernsey.
